Why does E.S. work on the body?

     E.S. works on the body because it is controled by electrical activity.  The nervous system is the main controller of all movements and functions of the body.  It controls the body by electrical impulses. Every beat of your heart happens because your body responds to electrical impulses. Every time you move your arm several muscles generated their contribution to that movement based on an electrical impulse.

 

How is electrical stimulation used?

    Electrical stimulation rarely ever used as the sole therapy measure for a patient.  It is often used in tandem with modalities and exercises.  E.S. has great healing effects on the body, but it is mainly used as a supplement to other method of rehabilitation.

 

Why is it called Russian stimulation?

     It was developed in Russia by Russians. It was used in the 1960s by Russian athletes to increase their strength. This didn’t really work. The specific parameters of amplitude and frequency were given the Russian name and is still used when selling electrical stimulation units today.

 

What is Iontophoresis?

     It is a type of electrical stimulation used to administer medication through the skin. Typically, the medications used are to help decrease calcium deposits and to help manage scar tissue.
