Essential Question

How will I evaluate the different types of stimulation therapy used in physical therapy?

Pre-Examination:

Why did I select this essential question?

I selected this question because the idea of electrical stimulation is very intriguing. When I did some research I found that it was more interesting than I has originally thought. The healing properties stimulation can have are fascinating. In the office I notice that some patients love stimulation and find it helpful and some don’t. By researching this topic I plan to find out why this is in order to understand the concept of stimulation better.

What excites me most about finding the answer to the essential question?

The thing that excites me the most about finding the answer to this question is learning more in depth about how the body works and how it responds to stimuli. Different types of stimulation will produce different resulting effects on the body. Learning about how and why the different stimulations work will give me better insight on why it has a possibility of healing injury. Exploring the mechanics of the stimulation methods will be very fun.

Post-Examination:

What did I learn?

Focusing on this essential question has taught me more about the body and physical therapy.  I have learned about the benefits of electrical stimulation and how it is used to heal injuries.  Learning about this has given me a better insight to a part of physical therapy. Electrical stimulation can be use in tandem with modalities in order to rehabilitate the patient. The mechanics of how stimulation works was also interesting to research. Another benefit to researching this topic is now if I ever injure myself I know what to expect from physical therapy.  From this project I have enjoyed researching about electrical stimulation and I have given myself knowledge for future reference.
